"Print is dead," nerdy scientist Dr. Egon Spengler said in Ghostbusters.
That was the futuristic year of 1984. People have said similar things in real life and made unintentional, rather than intentional, comedy. One such pronouncement was that personal computers would kill paper. Evidence soon proved the idea wrong. Paper mills have been more rather than less busy since the advent of the computer. The number one product sold online each year is the book.
PRINT IS DEAD?
What about the ebook? Does that mean we'll soon, finally, have to take the "print is dead" line seriously?
Physical print will be around in huge quantities for a time yet. It's safe to say it'll be around to some extent as long as humans exist.
The thing is, the written word is more important than any format. It's always in style. Digital media have just made it more in style than ever.
